ALLAN MITELMAN was born in Poland in 1946 and arrived in Australia in 1953. He studied at the Prahran College of Advanced Education (1965-68). Mitelman has held solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane as well as participating in numerous local and international group exhibitions including Australian Prints, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, U.K. (1972); Twelve Australian Lithographers, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (1975); Artists ' Artists', National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (1975); Modern Prints from Australia, Japan Print Association/Print Council of Australia, Kanagawa, Japan (1977); Freestyle: Australian Art - 1960's to Now, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (1980); Reference Points, Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane(1992); The Black Show, Geelong Art Gallery, Geelong (1993); Silent Objects : Non Objective Art from Melbourne ,Centre for Contemporary Art, Hamilton, New Zealand (1994) and Australian Art - Colonial to Contemporary, Deutscher Fine Art, Melbourne (1995). Mitelman's work is represented in major public collections throughout Australia, New Zealand and America including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne and the Museum of Modern Art at Heide, Melbourne. The exhibition, Allan Mitelman. After-images: A survey of works from 1970 -1995, was the first major survey of the artist's work in Melbourne. Allan Mitelman is currently living and working in Melbourne.
