Daylight sculpture 2.jpg [2/5]
Caption: Alex Spremberg New Sculpture 2005
The sculpture is located on Fleet Street on the way to the South Mole right in front of the new Challenger Tafe Maritime Centre, a new education facility for the fishing and boating industries. 71 cm. wide it rises to about 10 m. into the sky at an angle of 10 degrees. It is fabricated out of painted steel, seven panels of coloured glass each sandwiched between 2 sheets of high resistance polycarbonate and two white neon tubes for each of the seven panels. The sun shining through the coloured glass panels create colourful patterns around the sculpture throughout the day and are lit up internally by the neon tubes at night. Its zig-zag shape echoes the roof-line of the new Maritime Centre and the serrated roofline of the existing buildings along Fleet Street.
